Eryngium planum – 2026

Eryngium planum is a hardy, perennial plant admired for its striking, steel-blue, thistle-like flower heads that bloom from mid to late summer above spiny, grey-green foliage. The globe-shaped flowers and architectural leaves provide texture and structure in borders, rockeries, or naturalistic plantings, while attracting pollinators. Its compact, clump-forming habit makes it ideal for sunny garden positions where architectural interest is desired.

Thriving in full sun with well-drained soil, Eryngium planum is drought-tolerant once established and low-maintenance. Hardy and long-lived, it is suitable for exposed positions and provides lasting ornamental value through both foliage and distinctive flowers.
