Rovada Currant

The Ribesrubrum ‘Rovada’ (commonly known simply as Rovada red currant) is a highly regarded late-season variety of red currant that’s especially popular in UK gardens. It was bred in the Netherlands and is prized for its long-hanging strings of bright, glossy red berries, high yield, and excellent flavour.

This variety blooms in spring with pale green-white bell-shaped flowers, and then continues to fruit from late July into August making it a valuable addition for extending the soft-fruit harvest. Its upright, bushy habit means it can be grown as a freestanding bush or as part of a fruiting hedge, and it also adapts well to containers in smaller gardens.

With its strong disease resistance (notably to mildew) and very high cropping potential (some sources claim up to 10 kg per bush under good conditions) it’s considered one of the most productive red-currant varieties for UK conditions.
