Amsonia tabernaemontana 8211 2026

Amsonia tabernaemontana, commonly called blue star, is a clump-forming perennial valued for its clusters of pale blue, star-shaped flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer. The blooms are held above lance-shaped green leaves, which remain attractive throughout the season and contribute to a fresh, leafy backdrop in borders and naturalistic plantings. As autumn arrives, the foliage turns a striking golden-yellow, extending the plants seasonal interest well beyond flowering. This long-lived perennial is easy to grow, highly resilient, and drought-tolerant once established, making it a reliable choice for low-maintenance gardens. It thrives in moist but well-drained soils and is ideal for cottage gardens, prairie-style plantings, and wildlife-friendly schemes, as its nectar-rich flowers are attractive to pollinators such as butterflies and bees.
