Astrantia major 8211 2026

Astrantia major is a versatile perennial valued for its elegant, star-shaped flower umbels that rise above a mound of finely divided green foliage. Blooming from late spring to midsummer, its delicate flowers, often in shades of pink, red, or white, provide a soft and airy accent in borders, cottage gardens, or shaded woodland areas. This species attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies, enhancing garden biodiversity while offering long-lasting visual appeal. Its subtle yet distinctive blooms and attractive foliage make it a reliable and decorative choice for shaded planting schemes.

Thriving in moist, humus-rich soils, Astrantia major prefers partial to full shade and performs best when soil is kept consistently damp. Low-maintenance and hardy, it benefits from occasional deadheading to encourage prolonged flowering. Its combination of delicate flowers, appealing foliage, and ecological value make it an excellent addition to perennial borders or mixed shade plantings.
