Astrantia major ‘Rubra’ – 2026

Astrantia major ‘Rubra’ is a striking perennial featuring deep red, star-shaped flower umbels that rise elegantly above a mound of finely divided green foliage. Blooming from late spring to midsummer, its vivid flowers create a bold accent in borders, cottage gardens, or shaded woodland areas. The rich red tones attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, enhancing biodiversity while offering long-lasting visual appeal. Its combination of dramatic blooms and textured foliage makes it a standout choice for shaded garden spaces.

Thriving in moist, humus-rich soils, Astrantia major ‘Rubra’ prefers partial to full shade and performs best when the soil is kept consistently damp. Low-maintenance and hardy, it benefits from occasional deadheading to prolong flowering. Its ornamental appeal and pollinator-friendly nature make it a reliable choice for perennial borders or mixed shade plantings.
