Brunnera macrophylla ‘Alexander’s Great’ – 2026

Brunnera macrophylla ‘Alexander’s Great’ is a hardy, perennial plant prized for its large, heart-shaped leaves that are dark green with striking silver markings, providing dramatic foliage interest in shaded borders, woodland gardens, and underplantings. In spring, it produces sprays of small, vivid blue flowers that attract bees and other pollinators, adding early-season colour and supporting garden biodiversity. Its clumping habit and bold foliage make it ideal for naturalistic plantings or as a structural element in mixed perennial borders, combining ornamental leaves with delicate blooms for consistent garden appeal.

Thriving in partial to full shade with moist, well-drained soil, Brunnera macrophylla ‘Alexander’s Great’ benefits from removal of spent flower stems and occasional trimming of older leaves to maintain a tidy appearance. Hardy and resilient, it performs well in a range of garden conditions, making it suitable for woodland-style gardens, shaded borders, or as groundcover. Its combination of decorative foliage, attractive blue flowers, and pollinator-friendly blooms ensures it is a reliable and charming addition to any shaded garden.
