Dictamnus albus – 2026

Dictamnus albus is a hardy, herbaceous perennial valued for its spikes of fragrant, star-shaped white flowers that bloom from late spring to early summer. The upright flower stems rise above aromatic, dark green, pinnate foliage, adding architectural structure and striking vertical interest to borders, cottage gardens, and mixed perennial plantings. Its nectar-rich blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, enhancing garden biodiversity.

Thriving in full sun with well-drained, moderately fertile soil, Dictamnus albus benefits from staking in exposed sites to support its tall flower spikes. Cutting back spent flowers can help maintain a tidy appearance and encourage further flowering in favourable conditions. Hardy, long-flowering, and relatively low-maintenance, this species provides a dramatic display of summer colour and architectural interest, making it an excellent choice for sunny, well-drained borders.
