Lonicera ‘Belgica Select’

Lonicera periclymenum ‘Belgica Select’, commonly known as Early Dutch Honeysuckle, is a robust deciduous climber celebrated for its highly fragrant blooms. The flowers emerge primarily from June to July, showcasing a delightful blend of white and yellow hues with pink stripes, creating a striking visual display. As the season progresses, these blossoms give way to vibrant red berries that add interest into the autumn months.

This honeysuckle variety is well-suited for UK gardens, reaching impressive heights of up to 800 cm, making it ideal for covering walls, fences, or pergolas. Its lush, ovate leaves provide a verdant backdrop to the colorful flowers, enhancing the overall appeal of garden spaces. The plant thrives in fertile, moist but well-drained soils and prefers partial shade, though it can tolerate full sun conditions.

Beyond its ornamental beauty, ‘Belgica Select’ plays a valuable role in supporting local wildlife. The nectar-rich flowers attract bees and other pollinators, while the subsequent red berries provide a food source for birds in the autumn. Gardeners will appreciate its vigorous growth and the enchanting fragrance that can enhance outdoor living areas. Regular pruning after flowering helps maintain its shape and encourages healthy, lush growth.
