Papaver orientale ‘King Kong’ – 2026

Papaver orientale King Kong is a truly impressive oriental poppy, celebrated for its enormous scarlet-red blooms that create a dramatic statement in the garden. Each flower features large, ruffled petals surrounding a bold dark central blotch, carried aloft on tall, sturdy stems above a clump of coarse, hairy foliage. Its sheer size and vivid colour make it a commanding presence in mixed borders, cottage gardens, and focal planting schemes.

This hardy perennial thrives in well-drained soil and a sunny position, returning reliably each year with its spectacular floral display. Fully suited to the UK climate, it requires little upkeep beyond cutting back after flowering to encourage fresh growth. Its striking blooms are highly attractive to pollinators, while the seed pods provide further architectural interest later in the season. Papaver orientale King Kong combines scale, vibrancy, and reliability, ensuring it remains a standout feature in any summer garden.
