Penstemon digitalis ‘Husker Red’ – 2026

Penstemon digitalis Husker Red is an eye-catching perennial, admired for its tall spikes of tubular, white to pale pink flowers that rise above striking red-purple foliage. Blooming in early to midsummer, the contrast between the flowers and the colourful leaves creates a bold and dramatic display in borders, cottage gardens, or naturalistic plantings. Its long flowering period and architectural form make it a standout choice for adding both visual and ecological interest to the garden.

This hardy perennial thrives in well-drained soil and prefers a sunny to partially shaded position. Fully suited to the UK climate, it requires minimal maintenance beyond cutting back after flowering to encourage fresh growth. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, adding ecological value, while the vivid foliage maintains ornamental appeal even after the flowering period. Penstemon digitalis Husker Red combines striking foliage with elegant flowers, making it a dependable and versatile addition to summer garden displays.
