Physostegia virginiana ‘Variegata’ – 2026

Physostegia virginiana ‘Variegata’ is an eye-catching perennial prized for its variegated foliage and upright flower spikes. The lance-shaped leaves are edged with creamy-white margins, providing a striking contrast to the soft pink tubular flowers that bloom from mid-summer to early autumn. Its bushy, clump-forming habit makes it ideal for borders, mixed plantings, or as a feature in garden beds.

The flower spikes attract a variety of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, adding ecological value to any garden. ‘Variegata’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils. Although it is native to North America, it is not native to the UK, making it a non-native addition that brings both ornamental interest and biodiversity support. Its tidy growth, long-lasting blooms, and vibrant foliage make it a versatile choice for gardeners seeking colour, texture, and wildlife-friendly planting in one plant.
