Polemonium ‘Bressingham Purple’ – 2026

Polemonium ‘Bressingham Purple’, commonly known as Jacob’s Ladder, is a compact perennial that adds a touch of elegance to any garden. This cultivar is celebrated for its deep purple, fern-like foliage that provides a striking backdrop to its clusters of bell-shaped, lavender-blue flowers. The blooms, adorned with bright yellow stamens, appear in mid to late spring, creating a captivating display atop burgundy stems. The plant’s unique foliage, which becomes more vibrant in cooler temperatures, adds year-round interest to the garden.

Beyond its ornamental appeal, ‘Bressingham Purple’ offers ecological benefits by supporting local wildlife. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils. While it is native to East Asia, it is not considered native to the UK, making it a non-native addition that brings both beauty and biodiversity support. Its tidy growth, long-lasting blooms, and wildlife-friendly characteristics make it a versatile choice for gardeners seeking a low-maintenance yet visually appealing plant.
