Veronica gentianoides – 2026

Veronica gentianoides is a low-growing, spreading perennial that forms dense mats of glossy, dark green foliage. In late spring to early summer, it produces delicate, star-shaped pale blue flowers held on short stems just above the leaves. Its compact, ground-hugging habit makes it ideal for rock gardens, edging, and alpine-style plantings, providing a soft carpet of colour and texture. The subtle blue blooms add a gentle, naturalistic charm to borders and complement other spring and early summer perennials.

This plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. It is hardy and low-maintenance, tolerant of a range of garden soils, and suitable for difficult spots where a compact groundcover is needed. Veronica gentianoides attracts pollinators such as bees and hoverflies, offering nectar during its flowering period. Its tidy form and long-lasting foliage provide year-round structure and interest, making it a versatile addition to a variety of garden designs.
